From Preface - No other farm machine has had such a profound effect on agriculture as the farm tractor. In its infancy, the farm tractor was little more than a stationary engine adapted to a steam engine chassis. During the years required to complete this book, the history of many tractor builders has been elusive. Some were in business for only a short time or have been obscured by the clouds of time.
