As I've been interviewing hunters from across the nation, I continue to hear the same story. "You won't believe how small the property is where I'm taking trophy bucks." With the price of deer leasing continuing to escalate and fewer large tracts of land available, hunters are leasing small tracts of land or gaining permission to hunt these small properties. In this book, you'll read about 14-different hunters who either have gained permission or leased properties as small as 6 acres to as much as 250 acres, and they consistently taken older-age-class bucks off these little lands. When John and Jim Scott got pictures of a monstrous 10-point buck made from a surveillance camera at a suburban apartment complex, they immediately secured permission to hunt those 60 acres. John took a buck that scored in the 170s, and his twin brother, Jim, took a buck that scored over 160. Today they consistently take older-age-class bucks every year off this property and other small lands they hunt all over the nation. "When we learned that big bucks live on small properties, Jim and I both changed the way we hunt," John Scott explains. "Now, we focus all our time and energy hunting on and finding small properties. This book will teach you:* how to find and identify a small property that may hold trophy bucks;* how to get the landowner's name of the small property;* how to use the boundary lines of adjacent properties to learn where big bucks are;* what to look for on small properties that cause that land to produce older-age-class bucks every year; and* how to find and take trophy bucks on small woodlots. Thanks to some new types of maps available, often you can find the properties you want to hunt and then lease or obtain permission to hunt them without leaving home. If you're tired of paying high prices to join leases where you see few if any older-age-class bucks, if you want to have small family hunting spots for you and your family members, and if you want to become a trophy deer hunter who consistently bags big bucks every season, "How to Hunt and Take Big Buck Deer on Small Properties" is a must read.

Small tracts of land:* are easy to set-up trail cameras on, identify the bucks on these properties and make a hit list of bucks you want to take; * have little or no hunting pressure, and many hunters drive past them; * may home small patches of woods that are sanctuaries where big bucks concentrate during daylight hours;* may have the property around them intensively hunted, pushing big deer onto the small property; and* may be present but not visible on maps of public-hunting lands. This book will teach you:* how to find and identify a small property that may hold trophy bucks;* how to get the landowner's name of the small property; * how to use the boundary lines of adjacent properties to learn where big bucks are;* what to look for on small properties that cause that land to produce older-age-class bucks every year; and* how to find and take trophy bucks on small woodlots. How do you know if the land you hunt has a trophy deer on it? Wildlife manager Bob Zaiglin, of Uvalde, Texas and Jim Crumley, the father of modern-day hunting camouflage, tell you how to find out. GPS can make finding and taking that trophy buck easier. This hunting guide will teach you how to hunt big bucks where no one else can find them, how to call deer, and how to become versatile as a deer hunter, so that if one deer tactic doesn't work, another one will.Dr. Keith Causey, retired professor of Wildlife Science at Auburn University, says, "Deer of both sexes and all ages leave a wide variety and a large amount of information for other deer in their geological locations at scrapes. Although most people believe that dominant bucks in an area utilize these signposting regions, other deer use these signposts too for information." In the chapter, "How to find Bucks at Scrape," Causey describes the best way to hunt a scrape. Brad Harrison of Neosho, Missouri, is a nationally-known videographer, professional deer hunter and master at calling deer. Another master is Will Primos of Primos Game Calls. These two experts will tell the best deer calls and when to use them in this book. One question that's mystified deer hunters for many years, is how to know when bucks move. And for over 20 years, Bo Pitman, lodge manager of White Oak Plantation, has been studying deer movement patterns. He explains what types of conditions are best for predicting deer movement. How do you hunt deer in the snow? Norm LeBrun, of Quebec, Canada, a guide at Anticosti Island, hunts deer in the snow almost all year long and provides timely insights on how and where to take big bucks under these conditions. Eddie Salter lives in Alabama and Mark Drury in Missouri, and these two master deer hunters give you hunting tips for when the weather is hot and for hunting in swamps. Dr. Robert Sheppard tells you about some tricks that bucks play on whitetail deer hunters. There are also two chapters on how to hunt bucks at the end of deer season and a chapter on how to train bucks to come to you, so you don't have to go find them. For 50 years, I've been studying and hunting with some of the best whitetail hunters from around the country and in Canada, and this book is the combined knowledge of these time-tested, deer-hunting professionals. If you want to learn how to be a hunter, you need to have this book.

Deer hunting and deer hunters are drastically changing each year. To learn new techniques for hunting deer and have more places to hunt, I’ve interviewed some of the best deer hunters in the nation and share their tactics in “How to Hunt Deer Like a Pro: Volume II.”

In: Chapter 10, Jacob Lamar tells you his tactics for consistently taking older-age-class bucks on public lands in several states; Chapter 11, Bob Walker explains how to find places on public lands where you can hunt that 99% of the other hunters never have considered hunting; The Bonus Chapter, David Ramey tells you how, where, when and with what equipment to take big Kansas bucks on public lands by hunting in 100-degree weather when others won’t hunt. As more land is leased, more hunters are hunting public lands, but most won’t be successful; Chapter 13, Mark Drury, his family and his guests take mature bucks every season by having more small places to hunt rather than one large property. Drury explains the strategy of having satellite farms to hunt that only may be 50-150 acres each or less; Chapter 15, Pat Reeve, who hunts far-northern states and Canada, says, “I don’t like hunting for mature bucks until the weather is 20 degrees or less;” Chapter 4, Dr. Larry Marchinton says that funnels are the most-reliable stand sites to hunt for big bucks and tells why; Chapter 7, you’ll learn that Solunar Tables aren’t the only criteria for determining when mature bucks move the most; and Chapter 1, you’ll learn how Luke Brewster took a world-record whitetail.

To be more successful as a deer hunter, learn all you can about the animal, the wind, the temperature and the techniques required to get in close. In this book, you'll read about some of the best hunters in the nation who know how to hunt deer close, including one of the greatest archers who ever lived, Howard Hill. John E. Phillips shares his own deer stories and hunting tips from 50 years of experience, and you'll have the opportunity to watch 25 videos explaining the latest research on deer movement. Now contains a bonus chapter with recipes for two full meals using venison!"We've known John for over 30 years and he's absolutely right about hunting close. Terry and I can both shoot well out past 50 yards. But, to make a good video and to take an ethical shot, we like to get deer within 30 yards or less. In order to get deer that close, we scout intensively, we use trail cameras to pattern the deer, we have multiple stand sites to hunt under different weather conditions and we practice many of the same techniques that John recommends in this book. If you want to take more big deer, this book is a must." --Mark and Terry Drury
